Development History

"The Stranger in Town" is my 3rd published game. It was for the "Weekend Jam #4 - Don't kill anything/Night".

Things didn't go well in the beginning.
I had 2 ideas, this game and a game like Mario Galaxy but in 2D.
I went with the Mario Galaxy idea and nothing worked out the way I wanted it to.

I had no problems with gravity, because Godot already provides it, but the movement around a planet was much harder than I had imagined.
In the beginning everything always looked good, but when you kept moving, the movement was less and less a circle, but more like a flight into space or no movement at all.

That cost me a large part of my day and I had to start over with my second idea.
I created the base of "The Stranger in Town", but I still couldn't really let go of the Mario Galaxy idea, so I tried it again.
Again I had the same problems and I came back to my other project.
I was happy that I didn't deleted my progress before trying Mario Galaxy again, so I dind't had to start over.
At that point the day was already over.
Usually I already have more at this point and can then concentrate on other things the next day,
like Music, decoration, more gameplay, etc., but unfortunately that didn't work this time.
I still had a lot to do and I had no plan.

The next day, however, the world looked better again.
I was motivated and I really achieved a lot.
I don't know how I did it all by myself.
At the beginning of the day I had a "game" that could be developed in a few minutes, but at the end of the day I had a finished game with music, sound, several levels and an itch.io page.
I was really proud of myself.
I've learned a lot of new things and I even implemented a gravity mechanic in my game, just like I had imagined for my other game.
You still can't go around planets, but I've played with gravity a lot.
It was even the first time that my music sounds reasonably good.
I can still learn a lot, but my music skills have improved.

In general, the whole jam, despite the initial difficulties, was a huge success for me and I'm already looking forward to more jams :)
